Can This Love Be Translated? has unveiled a new batch of overseas production stills, offering a fresh look at the romantic comedy’s globe-trotting journey.
The Netflix series follows Ju Ho Jin, a multi-language interpreter who finds his carefully ordered life thrown off course when he’s assigned to interpret for top star Cha Mu Hui. What unfolds is an unpredictable rom-com that spans Korea, Japan, Canada, and Italy, with each destination shaping the couple’s relationship in a different way.
Director Yoo Young Eun explained that Japan plays a crucial role as the setting for Ho Jin and Mu Hui’s first meeting. To capture the nerves and excitement of that beginning, the production focused on staying close to the characters and letting the space guide the camera. Go Youn Jung shared, “Because we were getting to know each other and finding our rhythm, that fluttering feeling naturally came through in the performances.”
As the story moves to Canada and the characters’ emotions deepen, Yoo leaned into sweeping sunsets, auroras, and lakeside landscapes to heighten the romance. Kim Seon Ho recalled, “This was when Ho Jin and Mu Hui really grow closer, and on set it felt the same for us. My chemistry with Go Youn Jung got noticeably stronger.” Go added, “I had an absolute blast filming there, and I think that joy made the performances feel richer.”
Italy marks another turning point, envisioned as a series of intimate, romantic nights shared by the two leads. Against Europe’s winter scenery, warm yellow lights and softly falling snow create a calm yet cozy mood. Kim Seon Ho said, “Everything was great from start to finish. Director and Go Youn Jung really set the tone, and I just went along with it. It was a genuinely happy shoot.”
Back in Korea, Yoo aimed to spotlight everyday yet beautiful locations rather than flashy landmarks. “I wanted viewers to naturally take in Seoul through the places the characters live in and walk through,” the director said, hinting that spotting familiar city icons could be part of the fun.
Can This Love Be Translated? premieres exclusively on Netflix on January 16th.
