Myung Se Bin has revealed that she once struggled so severely with living expenses that paying her credit card bill became a monthly worry.
On the 24th, tvN’s You Quiz on the Block released an early preview of her interview through its YouTube channel.
Myung Se Bin is currently appearing in JTBC’s weekend drama The Dream Life of Mr. Kim, playing Park Ha Jin, the wife of Kim Nak Su (Ryu Seung Ryong). Her character is a longtime homemaker who has spent years managing the household.
The actress joked that she doesn’t have much real-life experience playing a long-married couple, leading her to mention her own divorce—drawing laughter on set.
Myung Se Bin married an attorney 11 years her senior in 2007 but divorced after five months. She also spoke frankly about the financial struggles she faced afterward. “I didn’t have money to pay my credit card bill, so I asked myself, ‘What do I sell this time?’ I sold my bags and other things. I was truly desperate,” she said. “I even thought that I wouldn’t be able to keep working as an actor, so I started learning floral arranging.”
She recalled doing part-time work arranging flowers at wedding venues, where she was told things like “Do it in the corner” and “Stay where no one can see you,” describing the harsh treatment she experienced at the time.
The Dream Life of Mr. Kim is a black comedy about a 50-something corporate manager who’s edged out of the promotion race and spiraling with anxiety. The latest episode (Episode 10) recorded a 5.4% viewership rating.
