The upcoming Genie TV original drama I Dol I (literal title) is gearing up to spark fresh fandom fever with its blend of mystery, courtroom tension, and romance.

Premiering December 22nd at 10 PM KST, I Dol I follows star lawyer Maeng Sena (Choi Sooyoung)—a diehard fan of idol singer Do Ra Ik (Kim Jae Young)—who takes on the case when her “ultimate bias” is suddenly framed as a murder suspect. The romance of proving her favorite’s innocence while hiding her own fan devotion is set to deliver both laughs and heart-fluttering moments.

Helmed by Call It Love director Lee Kwang Young and written by rising screenwriter Kim Da Rin, the drama comes from Ace Story, the production company behind hits like Big Mouth, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and Signal. With a cast led by Choi Sooyoung and Kim Jae Young—joined by Jung Jae Kwang, Choi Hee Jin, and Kim Hyun Jin—expectations among drama fans are already high.

The first table read offered a first look at the cast’s synergy. Choi Sooyoung fully transformed into Maeng Sena, a lawyer who takes on only the toughest criminal cases—earning the nickname “the attorney for villains”—while secretly living as a passionate fan of the mega-popular band Gold Boys.

Kim Jae Young drew attention as Do Ra Ik, the band’s top-tier vocalist whose life spirals overnight when he becomes the prime suspect in a murder case. Beloved for his talent, personality, and flawless idol image, Ra Ik hides a shadow behind the spotlight.

The colorful supporting cast adds to the charm. Jung Jae Kwang plays Gwak Byung Gyun, a cold-blooded prosecutor from a prestigious legal family and a figure with a bitter past connection to Maeng Sena—set to clash with her over the Ra Ik case. Choi Hee Jin stars as Hong Hye Joo, the privileged second daughter of a chaebol family who nevertheless lacks what she truly wants. Kim Hyun Jin delivers comedic energy as Park Chung Jae, a private investigator and Maeng Sena’s dependable right-hand man.

The production team teased, “From the tug-of-war between fan devotion and suspicion to the fluttering romance, the cast’s synergy takes the fun to another level.”

I Dol I premieres December 22nd on Genie TV.
