Ahead of its global December 19th premiere, Netflix’s The Great Flood has unveiled a set of tense new stills.
Following its screening in the Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere section at the 30th Busan International Film Festival—where it earned praise such as “a fascinating maze of a film that explores the human heart, something even larger than the disaster itself” (Cine21)—the sci-fi disaster blockbuster is raising anticipation with its newly released images.
The Great Flood follows the final day of Earth after a massive deluge, as people fight to protect humanity’s last hope inside an apartment building sinking under rising waters.
The stills capture the urgency of those trapped in an unavoidable disaster. AI researcher Anna (Kim Da Mi) rushes through a rapidly flooding hallway with her young son Ja In (Kwon Eun Seong) on her back, while security officer Hee Jo (Park Hae Soo) scans the surroundings as he leads them toward the rooftop.
Other images show Anna submerged in the overwhelming flood, Ja In crying for his mother, and Hee Jo shielding him—raising questions about whether the trio can safeguard humanity’s final chance at survival. The mysterious glowing orange particles hint at a sci-fi twist beyond a standard disaster film.

Kim Da Mi shared, “I wanted to show how the character grows as she follows the story through an extreme situation. It was difficult, but I learned so much from this role,” heightening curiosity about her transformation. Park Hae Soo added, “I was drawn to how human instincts and true nature surface in confined spaces,” explaining his attraction to both the film and his character.
Director Kim Byung Woo explained, “The title ‘The Great Flood’ carries both genre and thematic meaning. When the film reaches its final point, I hope the movie goes beyond just a genre and lets the viewers see another layer of significance. That shift in perception is the film’s key.”
The sci-fi disaster blockbuster The Great Flood premieres exclusively on Netflix on December 19th.
