BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Netflix’s animated feature KPop Demon Hunters have made Grammy history, earning nominations in the Recording Academy’s top categories—marking the first time a K-pop act has been recognized in the major fields.

According to the Recording Academy’s announcement on November 7th (local time), Rosé’s hit “APT.” scored three nominations at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, including two of the prestigious General Field categories: Song of the Year and Record of the Year—a first for any female K-pop artist.

Following the announcement, Bruno Mars shared a smiling photo with Rosé and a congratulatory post, writing, “Ayyye. Thank you, Recording Academy and Rosé. Look at that!”

Meanwhile, KPop Demon Hunters’ original soundtrack song “Golden” earned five nods, including Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Song Written for Visual Media, Best Remixed Recording (David Guetta Remix), and Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.

This marks the first time since BTS that a K-pop act has received Grammy recognition. BTS had been nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for three consecutive years but never clinched a win.

HYBE’s U.S.–Korea joint girl group Katseye also made the list with nominations for Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, an impressive feat for a rookie group only two years into its debut.

The Korean musical Maybe Happy Ending was also nominated for Best Musical Theater Album, drawing global attention to Korean creators.

Since its launch in 1959, the Grammys—organized by the Recording Academy—have stood as music’s most prestigious honor. While BTS paved the way with past nominations, the question now is whether Rosé or KPop Demon Hunters will bring home K-pop’s first-ever Grammy win.

The 68th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 1st, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
