The hit animated film KPop Demon Hunters is officially getting a sequel—with a release window set for 2029, according to reports from Bloomberg and Variety on November 5th (local time).

Netflix and Sony Pictures have reportedly finalized a new deal for the follow-up, which will continue the story of K-pop stars battling demons through music. Industry sources noted that due to the lengthy production process typical of animated features, the four-year gap between releases was expected.

KPop Demon Hunters, an action-fantasy animation produced by Sony Pictures and distributed by Netflix, follows K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira, and Joy, who use the power of their performances to fight demons threatening the world.

When it premiered in June, the film became a global sensation, surpassing 300 million views on Netflix and becoming the platform’s most-watched title in history.

Its original soundtrack also ignited a worldwide phenomenon. The main track “Golden” dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for multiple weeks, while songs like “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop” also went viral, topping playlists around the world and cementing the film’s place as a landmark in the K-pop-meets-animation genre.
