BLACKPINK’s Lisa is reportedly being considered for the lead role in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Rapunzel.
Allkpop reported on November 4th that Lisa has emerged as one of the top contenders for the part, citing industry sources.
Other actresses said to be in the mix include Florence Pugh and Sydney Sweeney, though the outlet noted that Lisa is being mentioned as the most likely candidate. Meanwhile, Scarlett Johansson is reportedly set to play the villain Mother Gothel, the witch who locks Rapunzel in her tower.
According to reports, Disney is seeking a global star to headline the film and help revitalize its box office momentum after the disappointing performance of the Snow White remake starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.
The movie will reportedly be directed by Michael Gracey, best known for The Greatest Showman. The original Rapunzel—released in 2010 as Disney’s 50th animated feature—earned widespread acclaim and grossed $592 million worldwide. Based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, it became one of Disney’s most beloved modern princess films.
Disney has not yet made an official announcement regarding casting.
