Despite fan speculation, Hyeri and Ryu Jun Yeol did not reunite for the upcoming Reply 1988 10th anniversary special.
Production company Egg Is Coming recently confirmed that it filmed a variety-style reunion show featuring the main cast of tvN’s beloved hit Reply 1988, marking ten years since its premiere. The cast, including Hyeri and director Shin Won Ho, reportedly went on a short retreat in Gangwon Province, joined by around 15 core cast members.
However, Ryu Jun Yeol was unable to join the trip due to scheduling conflicts with his upcoming Netflix project The Rat (working title). A tvN official explained, “Ryu Jun Yeol couldn’t attend the full schedule, but since this is a symbolic 10th-anniversary project, he made time to participate in partial filming.”
While he skipped the group shoot, Ryu reportedly joined a family-unit segment, reuniting with his on-screen family members Ra Mi Ran, Kim Sung Kyun, and Ahn Jae Hong.
Following the news, speculation grew that the former couple might appear together on screen for the first time since their controversial breakup. But that turned out not to be the case. An insider told OSEN, “The 10th-anniversary content mainly focuses on the retreat. Ryu Jun Yeol filmed only a brief separate segment, like the opening,” dismissing any talks about reuniting with Hyeri.
Hyeri and Ryu Jun Yeol first met while filming Reply 1988, later confirming their relationship publicly in August 2017. After six years of dating, the pair officially announced their breakup in November 2024.
