Netflix has officially greenlit a new Korean noir series tentatively titled Kin and Sin, featuring a powerhouse ensemble cast led by Han Suk Kyu, Yoon Kye Sang, Choo Ja Hyun, Yoo Jae Myung, Kim Jong Soo and Ko Doo Shim.
Set on Jeju Island, the series follows three powerful families—the Bu, Yang, and Go—locked in a ruthless battle to protect their bloodlines and territories. As they fight to dominate the island’s industries, including pig farming, horse racing, real estate, and casinos, Kin and Sin explores loyalty, betrayal, and the complex social ties that bind the island’s elite.
The Korean title “Gwandang” is the Jeju dialect term meaning relatives who share ancestral rites. In local culture, it extends beyond family ties to represent the tight-knit, interdependent relationships unique to Jeju society—an idea that forms the backbone of the series’ moral and emotional conflict.
Han Suk Kyu, best known for his role in the Dr. Romantic franchise, plays Bu Yong Nam, the patriarch of the Bu family who must defend his family amid escalating feuds. Yoon Kye Sang (The Outlaws, The Frog) takes on the role of Bu Geon, Yong Nam’s half-brother, who struggles to claim his place within the powerful family.
Choo Ja Hyun (Little Women, Narco-Saints) portrays Bu Yong Seon, the fiercely driven female lead of the Bu family, while Yoo Jae Myung (Tempest, Harbin) stars as Yang Gwang Ik, head of the rival Yang family seeking to topple the Bu empire. Kim Jong Soo (Bogotá: City of the Lost, Smugglers) joins as Go Dae Soo, the fading leader of the Go family, once dominant in Jeju’s casino trade.
Ko Doo Shim rounds out the cast as Granny Daepan, marking her return to a Jeju-set project—and to her own ancestral roots once again after Our Blues.
The series will be directed by Choi Jung Yeol, known for Vigilante, with a production team that includes veterans from Squid Game, Narco-Saints, The Age of Shadows, and My Daughter is a Zombie.
Kin and Sin (working title) will stream exclusively on Netflix.
