Chef Triple Star (real name Kang Seung Won) has been cleared of allegations that he embezzled restaurant funds, one year after the accusations were first made public.
On October 19th, Kang released a personal statement saying, “Hello, this is Kang Seung Won, who appeared as Triple Star on Culinary Class Wars. Around this same time last year, I was accused by my ex-wife of business embezzlement. The investigation has now concluded.”
He continued, “In September, I received official notice from the Seoul Gangnam Police that the case would not be forwarded for prosecution, with a ruling of ‘no evidence of crime.’ Recently, the prosecution also confirmed the ‘not guilty’ decision.”
Kang shared that he had remained silent despite having evidence to refute the claims, explaining, “I could have defended myself with data from my phone’s forensic analysis, but I chose not to because my rebuttal would inevitably involve personal matters about my ex-wife. I didn’t want to disrupt her new life.”
The chef expressed gratitude to those who supported him during the difficult year: “To everyone who visited my restaurant and encouraged me through this ordeal—thank you. With the love I received from Culinary Class Wars and the lessons from this long legal battle, I’ll do my best to become an even better chef.”
According to police reports, investigators found that while the chef’s ex-wife alleged he had diverted restaurant funds, the situation was better classified as a creditor–debtor dispute, noting that Kang had fully repaid 150 million KRW (approx. 105,000 USD) in borrowed funds. Police also stated there was no evidence to support additional rumors related to his private life.
Kang Seung Won rose to fame after finishing third place on Netflix’s viral cooking survival show Culinary Class Wars, where he was known for his bold creativity and refined plating. However, following the allegations last year, he temporarily stepped back from public appearances and focused on his restaurant business.
