Song Seung Heon is in mourning following the death of his mother. She passed away at the age of 77.
The actor’s agency shared the sad news on September 21st. A wake is currently being held, with the funeral procession scheduled for Tuesday morning.
The news comes at a professional high point for the actor. He is currently starring in the popular ENA drama My Troublesome Star, which has been a ratings success and is approaching its finale. The role marked his first return to television in about a year, and his performance has been widely praised. The show’s viewership has climbed from 1.3% to a high of 4.2%, making it one of the network’s most successful dramas.
The loss is especially poignant as Song has often spoken publicly about his deep affection for his family. In 2020, he shared childhood photos of his parents, which gained attention for his father’s good looks.
However, Song has always expressed a special fondness for his mother, once saying on TV, “My mother is more beautiful than my father.” He also shared a heartfelt message to them, saying, “I am happy to be the son of both of you. Please stay healthy for a long, long time.”
Amid his grief, Song has cleared his professional schedule. His agency, King Kong by Starship, stated that the actor has canceled the finale press interview for My Troublesome Star, which had been scheduled for September 25th. “The interview has been unavoidably canceled,” the agency explained.
