Netflix has officially greenlit a live-action series adaptation of Solo Leveling—the global phenomenon that began as a web novel and went on to conquer webtoons, animation, and games. Leading the charge is breakout star Byeon Woo Seok, set to play the story’s hero, Sung Jin Woo.
Solo Leveling follows Jin Woo, an E-rank Hunter mocked as the weakest in a world where deadly monsters pour into reality through mysterious “gates.” But when a near-death encounter unlocks his unique ability to level up beyond limits, he begins his transformation into humanity’s greatest hope.
The franchise has seen massive success worldwide, with a jaw-dropping 14.3 billion global views and a hit anime that swept major categories at the 2025 Crunchyroll Awards—including Anime of the Year and Best Action. Now, the Netflix adaptation promises to bring its pulse-pounding action and fantastical world to life through top-tier VFX, a massive dungeon scale, and visually arresting monsters—handled by a globally renowned VFX team.
At the center of the hype is Byeon Woo Seok, riding high off the runaway success of Lovely Runner, and now one of Korea’s most in-demand actors.
