With the global premiere just weeks away, Netflix’s Squid Game Season 3 has released a batch of behind-the-scenes stills—featuring director Hwang Dong Hyuk in action and a first look at the dramatically reimagined VIP room set.

Originally launched in 2021, Squid Game shocked the world with its chilling take on childhood games turned deadly. The dystopian series introduced a brutal survival contest where contestants risk their lives for a 45.6 billion KRW (approx. 33 million USD) prize, all while raising profound questions about humanity, morality, and desperation.

Now, as the highly anticipated final season prepares to land on June 27th, director Hwang returns with a promise: “Season 3 is darker and more violent than Season 2—but it’s also surprisingly inventive and even humorous at times.”

Discussing his vision, Hwang shared, “Through the game sets, I wanted to capture the contrast between nostalgic childhood memories and the bleak, twisted situations the characters are forced into. It’s about visualizing moral dilemmas and cruel fates.” He added, “I wanted to ask this fundamental question: Do we still have humanity—and does that humanity have the power to make the world better?”

One of the standout reveals from the new stills is the revamped VIP room. Unlike the black marble interior from previous seasons, Season 3 introduces a cold, elegant white marble finish. According to production designer Chae Kyung Sun, “The contrast between Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae), who burns like fire, and the Front Man (Lee Byung Hun), who is icy and calculated, is symbolized through the use of white marble.”

Even the VIP dining space got an upgrade. “We used hexagonal patterns to reflect the idea of structure and divinity,” Chae explained. “I thought of evil as encompassing all cruel and violent things as poison. So I expressed poisonous plants and used various colors in the design to construct the VIP room,” Chae explained. “While Season 1 used a meadow feeling to reveal a world of survival of the fittest, Season 3 uses gorgeous but dangerous poisonous plants to create bold spatial design.”

Squid Game Season 3 premieres June 27th, 2025—only on Netflix.
