The controversy surrounding soccer star Son Heung Min (32, Tottenham Hotspur) deepened this week, with new claims revealing that the woman accused of extorting him for billions of won was simultaneously dating another man, and reportedly unsure of her baby’s paternity.
On May 20th, Korean media outlet Dispatch released excerpts from private conversations between the accused woman, identified only as Yang (a woman in her 20s), and another man, Yong (a man in his 40s), who now faces charges for attempted extortion.
In the exchange, Yong asks, “Do you even know whose baby it is?” to which Yang responds, “How would I know whose baby it is?” Yong then replies, “Then you should’ve just gone after one—either Number 1 or Number 2. Not both.”
“Number 1” refers to a businessman Yang was seeing during the same period she was dating Son Heung Min—“Number 2.” According to Dispatch, Yang contacted both men after discovering she was pregnant, but only Son responded.
Son reportedly had no idea Yang was seeing someone else until Yong, who had since fallen out with Yang, exposed the situation.
Yang, who previously worked in the modeling industry, is accused of threatening to reveal the alleged pregnancy to the public if Son did not comply with her demands. She allegedly sent ultrasound images and claimed she was pregnant with Son’s child, ultimately receiving approximately 300 million KRW (about $216,000 USD).
Although Yang is said to have undergone an abortion, authorities have not been able to confirm whether the child was actually Son’s. Investigators have also noted that Yang and Son’s timelines regarding the alleged conception do not match.
