BLACKPINK’s Jennie revealed during her May 7th appearance on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block that her breathtaking Coachella performance came after an intense 16-month preparation period, sharing behind-the-scenes insights from the career-defining festival experience.

Performing before approximately 250,000 spectators, Jennie admitted she was overwhelmed by the energy. “I was surprised by the sheer power of that crowd,” she confessed. “I’m not sure why I got so emotional. It felt like I was finally being rewarded for all my ‘determination’ of the preparation. Before the show, I wondered, ‘Will people actually come?’ But looking out from the stage, the crowd seemed endless.”

When asked how often she’d watched her own performance video, Jennie replied with candor: “I watched the full video like twice, and then it started appearing everywhere.” She added, “I don’t usually monitor my performances. I tend to overthink things, so I worry that I’ll fixate on small details when I watch myself. I prefer to see the bigger picture, but with Coachella, I did watch a little. Not because it was perfect, but because I performed with my whole heart, so despite being a bit embarrassed, I watched it.”

Host Yoo Jae Suk noted, “What’s amazing is that you performed 13 songs live without a break for 50 minutes. How much did you have to practice?”

Jennie revealed her intense preparation: “I usually can’t do full rehearsals. I realized one of my biggest limitations in my job was my stamina. I wanted to overcome that, so whenever I had time, I’d put on a 50-minute playlist and just keep running while singing. If that didn’t go well, I’d go get treatment, then return to practicing, and repeat that—that’s how I achieved this performance. It was truly a battle with myself.”

Jennie made headlines when she spontaneously shouted “Mom, I love you” while performing her final song “Starlight.” She explained, “I really promised myself not to cry. But it was the last song, and my mom was watching… That’s why I can’t watch that video.” She added with a smile, “So many people saw it. It was portrayed so beautifully. We’re just an ordinary mother and daughter, but we received so much attention.”

After returning to Korea following Coachella, Jennie shared her simple post-festival activities: “I rested at home and ate delicious food. Just those two things on repeat.” She laughed, “A few days ago, I ordered six rolls of different kinds of gimbap and ate them with ramen. It’s been a while since I’ve been in Korea. We have so many varieties of gimbap, so I indulged. It was amazing.”
