The legal representative for the late actress Kim Sae Ron’s family, attorney Bu Ji Seok from Law Firm Buyou, has been reported to the South Korea’s Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
According to reports on the 29th, a complainant identified only as “A” filed allegations claiming Attorney Bu overstepped his role as legal counsel and potentially participated in unlawful activities. The complainant asserts that while representing the bereaved family, Bu either provided improper legal advice or directly participated as an accomplice in questionable actions.
This development adds another layer of complexity to the case that has captivated Korean entertainment circles. Previously, Kim Soo Hyun’s agency filed criminal complaints against Kim Sae Ron’s family, a channel operator, and an individual identified as “B” who claims to be Kim Sae Ron’s aunt, for alleged violations of the Special Act on Sexual Violence (distribution of illegally filmed material).
Complainant “A” stated, “Attorney Bu went beyond simply providing legal counsel by actively spreading the family’s claims and using his position as a lawyer to make false information appear truthful,” adding, “His abuse of responsibility and trust as a legal professional deserves significant criticism.”
They further alleged that Attorney Bu used inflammatory language such as “grooming sexual crime” during press conferences, causing irreparable damage to Kim Soo Hyun’s reputation. Their claim is that this has resulted in tangible harm including production delays for upcoming projects and potential liability for damages.
The controversy stems from a March 7th emergency press conference where Kim Sae Ron’s family publicly released materials they claim prove that Kim Soo Hyun had been dating Kim Sae Ron since she was underage.
Kim Soo Hyun subsequently held his own press conference to counter these allegations, stating, “I did not date the deceased when she was a minor. It is also untrue that she made her tragic choice because I turned my back on her or because my agency pressured her regarding debts.”
