Spring’s breakout Korean hit The Match continues its winning streak, claiming the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office for a third straight week and officially surpassing its break-even point.
According to the Korean Film Council, The Match drew a total of 1,807,602 admissions as of Sunday, April 13th, crossing its breakeven threshold of 1.8 million. With over 300K tickets sold over its third weekend alone, the film has shown minimal drop-off from its second-week performance, signaling strong and sustained audience interest.
Starring Lee Byung Hun as legendary Go master Cho Hun Hyun, The Match tells the compelling story of a national icon who, after a shocking loss to his own student (Yoo Ah In), reignites his competitive fire to return to the top.

To thank fans for the film’s ongoing success, the production team BY4M Studio released new behind-the-scenes stills from the set. The photos capture cast members Lee Byung Hun, Go Chang Seok, Hyun Bong Sik, Moon Jeong Hee, and Jo Woo Jin fully immersed in their craft—rehearsing, monitoring their takes, and exchanging laughs between scenes. The contrast between their focused professionalism and off-screen camaraderie adds even more heart to the story behind the hit.
With its current momentum, The Match is expected to surpass the 2 million admissions milestone by the end of the week. The film is now playing in theaters across South Korea.
