Another Yoo Ah In film is finally seeing the light of day. Following The Match (directed by Kim Hyung Joo), the actor’s long-shelved superhero comedy HI-FIVE (directed by Kang Hyoung Chul) is now preparing for release.

Distributor NEW confirmed to Dispatch on April 4th that HI-FIVE is targeting a release “around June,” though the exact date is still being finalized.

HI-FIVE is a quirky take on the superhero genre, centered around five ordinary people who suddenly gain superpowers—and end up clashing with those who seek to exploit them. The film is helmed by Kang Hyoung Chul, known for box office hits like Sunny and Scandal Makers.

Originally slated for an earlier release, HI-FIVE was indefinitely postponed after Yoo Ah In was indicted on charges related to illegal drug use. In February, the actor received a one-year prison sentence with a two-year probation from the appeals court and was subsequently released.

Despite the film’s revival, Yoo Ah In will not be taking part in the promotions, as NEW cautiously stated, “Yoo Ah In will not be participating in any promotional activities for ‘HI-FIVE.'”

The same approach was taken with The Match, which made no promotional use of the actor, nor did it edit out his scenes. Despite initial concerns, the film has performed strongly—topping the box office for nine consecutive days.
