SBS has unveiled the first teaser for its upcoming weekend fantasy rom-com The Haunted Palace, starring Yook Sung Jae and Bona, and it’s already turning heads for all the right reasons.
The Haunted Palace tells the story of Yeori, a shaman who’s rejected her fate, and Kang Cheol Yi, an imoogi (a serpent-like creature from Korean mythology) who possesses the body of her first love, royal scholar Yoon Gap. Directed by Yoon Sung Shik (Mr. Queen, Bridal Mask) and written by Yoon Soo Jung (The King’s Face, Cheer Up!), the series also stars Kim Ji Hoon, who makes a brief but striking appearance in the teaser.
The newly released teaser introduces viewers to Kang Cheol Yi, who’s trained for a thousand years to become a dragon—but failed. Now stuck in the human world inside Yoon Gap’s body, he’s wreaking havoc in the royal court, picking fights with the king while casually picking his ears and leaping over palace walls.
Meanwhile, Yeori is left scrambling to contain the chaos, literally covering his mouth mid-outburst and bowing in apology. As the teaser shifts from slapstick to simmering tension, Kang Cheol Yi growls, “I want to devour her,” while Yeori, confused and flustered, murmurs, “I just confused him with Yoon Gap.”
Yook Sung Jae takes on dual roles as the powerful yet reckless Kang Cheol Yi and the gentle, charming Yoon Gap, showing off both comedic timing and romantic nuance. Bona grounds the madness with her portrayal of Yeori. Though Kim Ji Hoon only appears briefly, his presence leaves a strong impression.
Set to follow Buried Hearts in SBS’s weekend slot, The Haunted Palace is scheduled to premiere this April.
