The production team behind MBC’s variety show Good Day has decided to edit out Kim Soo Hyun‘s scenes amid growing controversy.
On March 17th, the Good Day production team stated, “The production team recognizes the severity of the controversy surrounding one of our cast members and is continuing production while prioritizing viewer feedback.”
They explained that episode 5 was already in translation for international broadcast when the controversy escalated, forcing them to urgently edit out Kim Soo Hyun’s parts from the “Good Day General Assembly” segment. This resulted in an episode about 10 minutes shorter than usual.
Regarding the recording session on the 13th, the team explained that they had no choice but to proceed despite the controversy, as Kim Soo Hyun’s agency had informed them a statement would be released the following week, and rescheduling the entire cast would be too difficult. They elaborated, “After careful discussion, we conducted the recording and sketch filming with the possibility of deleting content in mind, trying to minimize overlap with other cast members,” adding, “We sincerely apologize for any concern this may have caused to those who love ‘Good Day.'”
The statement concluded, “We will continue to do our best to make the remaining broadcasts enjoyable for viewers and to be mindful of the feelings of our cast members, striving to create a program where you can spend good days with good people.”
Kim Soo Hyun became embroiled in controversy when the family of the late Kim Sae Ron claimed that the deceased had been in a relationship with him since she was a minor. Kim Soo Hyun’s representatives countered that “They dated after she became an adult,” but both sides remain at odds.
