Song Il Kook revealed the surprising story of how his judge wife rejected him twice, during a candid appearance on TV Chosun’s Huh Young Man’s Food Travel that aired on March 9th.
The actor met up with host Huh Young Man in Incheon’s Songdo district, the very area he popularized through his appearance on KBS’s The Return of Superman with his triplets. However, he disclosed that he no longer lives there after his wife received a transfer to another location.
Currently busy with raising his children, Song has been largely absent from television screens. This prompted Huh Young Man to ask candidly, “I was curious how this man makes a living. Do you receive an allowance from your wife?” Song quickly clarified, “No. No matter how little I earn, I still make more than my wife. Even when I’m not doing TV shows, I have other income streams like musicals.”
Speaking about his wife, who works as a judge, Song proudly described her as a renowned food enthusiast. “I joke that being a judge is just her side job. Even when she went to Paris for training, it was really because of the food,” he revealed. He continued boasting about his wife’s impressive linguistic abilities, saying, “She started studying French because she wanted to go to France. She loved manga as a kid, so her Japanese is native-level. English is a given, and she wrote her master’s thesis in German.”
When asked how they met, Song shared, “We were set up. I agreed to meet her, but she rejected me twice.” He recalled the time with amusement, saying, “Back then, my drama ‘Jumong’ was hitting over 40% ratings, and I feared nothing. I wasn’t even envious of BTS at that time, but she rejected me, which made me determined to meet her out of pride. I thought, ‘How dare she reject me?'”
The actor continued, “I planned to end things immediately if I didn’t like her, but I was really impressed by her.” He added humorously, “I ran out of things to talk about and started asking basic questions, and found out her father had worked as an executive at a major corporation.”
