Singer-songwriter Olivia Marsh has acknowledged plagiarism allegations herself and has confirmed that she’s reached a settlement with the original creator.
Her agency MPLIFY released an official statement on the night of the 24th addressing the plagiarism controversy surrounding “Backseat.” The song had previously drawn comparisons to American singer Isaac Dunbar’s track “Onion Boy.”
Isaac Dunbar also weighed in on the situation. He recently claimed on social media that “a song I wrote in my bedroom in 2019 was stolen.” MPLIFY acknowledged the similarities between the two songs and moved quickly toward resolution. “We have reached an amicable agreement with Isaac Dunbar,” they announced, adding that “necessary procedures are underway to ensure the original creator’s rights are protected, including discussions about songwriting share and credit registration.”
MPLIFY also promised to review their internal systems. “We will take this incident as a lesson and ensure that such a situation does not occur again,” they concluded, “We apologize to Isaac Dunbar and fans who may have been disappointed.”
Olivia Marsh debuted in October last year with her self-composed song “42.” She released her first album Meanwhile on the 13th of this month. She is also known as the older sister of NJZ’s Danielle.
