Song Hye Kyo’s Dark Nuns and Kwon Sang Woo’s comedy Hitman 2 have made a major step toward profitability.
Dark Nuns follows the story of two nuns who undertake a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a powerful demon. As of Sunday, February 9th, the film has reached 1.6 million moviegoers, officially recouping its production costs. The cast celebrated this milestone by sharing photos with fans, expressing their excitement and gratitude. Dark Nuns has also achieved significant international success, securing pre-sales in 160 countries. Its Indonesian release marked the biggest opening ever for a Korean film in the country, and it now stands as the second most-watched Korean movie in Indonesian box office history. The film also dominated the Philippine box office for two consecutive weeks. Its global rollout continues with upcoming premieres in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and Laos on February 6th; North America and Myanmar on February 7th; Singapore and Malaysia on February 13th; and Vietnam on February 21st.
Meanwhile, Hitman 2 is the first film of 2025 to turn a profit. The film has held the No. 1 spot at the box office for two weekends in a row. Now in its third week, the movie has surpassed 2.31 million admissions despite stiff competition. It’s on track to become the first major box office hit of the year and is expected to stay strong in its fourth week. With momentum still going, the film is now aiming for 3 million tickets sold. Hitman 2 is an action-comedy about special agent Jun as he begins the second chapter of his life as a webtoon artist.
Both Dark Nuns and Hitman 2 are now playing in theaters nationwide.
