Choo Young Woo has addressed the recent controversy surrounding his Instagram following list during the wrap-up interview for JTBC’s The Tale of Lady Ok on February 4th.

The rising star, who’s currently enjoying simultaneous success with his roles in The Tale of Lady Ok and Netflix’s The Trauma Code (as Yang Jae Won), found himself in hot water when netizens discovered his Instagram account followed several influencers known for provocative content. While legally permissible, the revelation disappointed some fans, particularly given his recent portrayal of an LGBTQ+ character requiring heightened sensitivity regarding gender issues.

Addressing the situation, Choo stated, “There was no particular intention behind it. I just like watching short-forms like Reels and Shorts, and I caused discomfort to many people,” adding, “I am sorry and have realized I need to be more careful with my words and actions going forward.”

The actor, whose Instagram following recently surpassed 1 million, reflected on his growing influence. “With all this attention and love I’m receiving, I realize I need to be more mindful of my actions and words. I’m now aware that my personal intentions and thoughts could be misinterpreted by others,” he shared.

Choo Young Woo is currently filming his upcoming projects, including Netflix’s Mercy for None and tvN’s drama Gyeon Woo and Fairy (literal title).
