NewJeans Members’ Parents Unite on Social Media to Counter HYBE Claims

The parents of K-pop phenomenon NewJeans have taken their battle to social media, launching a joint account to address ongoing disputes with HYBE.

Parents of all five members—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—announced on January 31st that they’ve created a temporary social media account, stating it was “inevitably opened to represent our position in the dispute with HYBE.”

The parents revealed their previous communication struggles: “Without an official channel to convey our position, we’ve made several attempts to communicate through direct interviews with various media outlets and through journalists we knew. While some outlets published our statements as they were, they were very few. We also tried distribution through agencies, but encountered difficulties in having our position conveyed without distortion, as headlines were often written inappropriately.”

They explained the timing of their social media launch. “We received information that ahead of the injunction lawsuit, HYBE and ADOR are spreading ‘gossip’ to various journalists to publish false stories about the girls,” they wrote.

The statement continued, “We understand that many people are tired of this lengthy dispute. However, as the members’ current sole representatives, please understand our desperate need for a communication channel to correct the facts, primarily focusing on content that the members themselves find difficult to address.”

NewJeans announced their split from ADOR during an emergency press conference on November 28th last year. Since then, the members have continued their activities individually under their names rather than as NewJeans. In response, ADOR filed a lawsuit in December to confirm the validity of their exclusive contracts, followed by an injunction in January seeking to prevent the members from signing advertising contracts and preserve the agency’s status.
