The final film of late actor Song Jae Rim, titled Crash: A Man Whose Business Failed (literal translation) or just simplay Crash, has confirmed its January release, as stated by the production company MooAm.
Crash delves into the struggles of young entrepreneurs who manipulate startup grant systems designed for youth, women, and disabled groups. After repeatedly abusing the grant system, they intentionally declare bankruptcy and close their businesses until they receive a Series A funding boost for a new cryptocurrency venture, leading to life-altering decisions. The film takes inspiration from the infamous 2022 collapse of the cryptocurrency LUNA, which shook the financial and tech sectors. Directed and produced by Hyun Hae Ri, a former news and documentary producer, Crash completed production in November 2022.
Song Jae Rim portrays the lead character, Yang Do Hyun, who is depicted as an opportunistic figure, collecting startup grants under false pretenses and repeatedly closing down each venture.
News of Crash’s upcoming release comes on the heels of Song’s untimely passing on November 12th, at the age of 39, adding a somber note for fans who will see his final performance on screen.
Song Jae Rim made his debut in the 2009 film Actresses and later gained recognition through MBC’s The Moon Embracing the Sun. He continued to make his mark in various projects, including Our Gap-soon, Clean with Passion for Now, and Café Minamdang. This year, he appeared in the TVING series Queen Woo and JTBC’s My Military Valentine. His last stage role was in the musical The Rose of Versailles, which concluded its run on October 13th.
