Former TVXQ star Kim Junsu was blackmailed for 840 million won ($600,000) by a female Afreeca TV streamer who secretly recorded their private moments.
Authorities revealed on November 15th that the Gyeonggi North Provincial Police Agency had applied for an arrest warrant for the woman on November 13th, charging her with blackmail under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes. She is accused of extorting a total of 840 million KRW from Kim in 101 separate incidents, from September 2020 to last month.
The woman reportedly met Kim in 2019 and secretly recorded their conversations. She then threatened to release the recordings on social media unless Kim provided money and valuables. It is believed she blackmailed him to fund her drug use.
The woman is currently on trial for drug-related offenses at the Seoul Central District Court, with the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutor’s Office also investigating additional cases involving her.
