Jung Yu Mi recently showcased her stunning visuals in a photoshoot for Singles, revealing a new side of herself with a sultry and captivating vibe. The star of TVING’s original drama Queen Woo opened up about her character and the challenges of portraying such an intense role.
Queen Woo is an action-packed historical drama that followss Queen Woo, who must navigate political chaos after the sudden death of the king. Jung Yu Mi plays Queen Woo’s older sister Woo Soon, vying to rise in power herself.
In a candid interview, Jung Yu Mi reflected on her journey, sharing, “After ‘Partners for Justice 2’ ended, I thought season 3 would go into production right away. But as it kept getting delayed, I took the time to explore other projects and think about new ways to grow as an actress.”
Jung Yu Mi spoke candidly about her approach to acting, saying, “There was a time when actresses would naturally move from playing moms to aunts. But now, those roles are becoming less common. During my break, I felt like I wasn’t keeping up with the changes as quickly as I should have, but I still believe there are plenty of opportunities ahead.”
When asked if these concerns influenced her decision to join Queen Woo, Jung Yu Mi replied, “Yes, exactly. The drama ended up being an 8-episode series, but the original script was much more intense and hard-hitting.” The actress added, “It wasn’t about trying to reinvent myself through the nude scenes, but the powerful imagery of the story and the character Woo Soon was a big challenge for me. I felt that, unlike the calm, righteous roles I’ve played before, taking on a character driven by ambition and instinct would bring me new strength as an actor.
When asked how she wants to be remembered as an actress, Jung Yu Mi shared, “I want to be the kind of actress who feels close to people, not someone distant. Whether people recognize me or not, I’d love to be remembered as a familiar and approachable actor as I grow older.”
