Jang Na Ra, star of the SBS drama Good Partner, recently shared her thoughts on her husband and married life in an interview with Star News, as the show wrapped up its run.
Good Partner is a legal drama about star divorce attorney Cha Eun Kyung and rookie lawyer Han Yoo Ri, who is navigating her first divorce case. The series kicked off with strong ratings, debuting at 7.8% and reaching a peak of 17.7% during its seventh episode, before closing out with a final 15.2% viewership.
Before diving into the interview, Jang Na Ra expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’m so thankful and happy that the show was loved even more than I expected. I felt that the script had a lot of relatable stories, and I think the character really resonated with viewers.”
Given that Good Partner revolves around divorce, it was only natural that Jang Na Ra reflected on her own marriage. “I completely separate my acting from my personal life. It makes things easier that way. If I feel even a little bit of sadness or conflict, I just can’t focus,” she explained.
On her perspective on marriage, the actress shared, “I think marriage should be fun. You get married to enjoy life, so if it’s not happy or fun, then what’s the point? In the show, one of the lines goes, ‘Whether it’s divorce, staying single, or marriage, it’s all about making the best choice for yourself. You put in the effort for that choice, and if it doesn’t work out, it’s okay to put your effort into a different one.’ I think that’s so true. It’s important to have the courage to make a different choice if things aren’t working, rather than forcing something to last.”
When asked who her real-life “Good Partner” is, Jang Na Ra didn’t hesitate. “It’s my husband,” she said with a smile. Jang Na Ra married a cinematographer, who is six years her junior, in 2022. “He was actually the one who recommended this project to me. So, when the show did well, he joked that he should get the most credit. I was physically exhausted after my previous project and wasn’t sure about taking on another role, but he read the script and said, ‘There’s no time to rest; you’ve got to do this one!'” she shared.
Reflecting on his visit to the set, she said, “I like meeting him outside of work, but I remember calling out ‘Honey!’ when I saw him, and he got all shy, telling me to stop,” she laughed.
When asked if she’d recommend marriage, Jang Na Ra replied, “If you meet someone who really clicks with you or someone who’s willing to try new things with you, then yes, I’d recommend it. But if not, there’s no need to rush into it. Marriage just for the sake of being married isn’t something I’d suggest,” adding, “Everyone has their own path in life. Marriage is about living with someone you haven’t known for decades, and even living with family can be hard sometimes! But if you truly love the person, I’d totally recommend it.”
