Netflix has decided not to award the prize money to Oking, the winner of its recently released original reality show The Influencer.
On August 21st, Netflix officially announced that they did not pay the ₩300 million ($224,451) prize to the final winner of The Influencer.
In response, Netflix stated, “Maintaining secrecy about the content before its release is crucial to ensuring that everyone’s hard work is rewarded and that viewers can fully enjoy the experience as intended. It’s also a commitment shared by the entire production team and cast who all want the project to succeed.”
They added, “Therefore, the prize money was not awarded to the winner who violated the confidentiality clause in the contract to maintain the credibility of the program and fairness among the contestants.”
The Influencer is a social survival reality show where 77 of South Korea’s most famous influencers compete to find the person with the greatest social power. Content creators from various platforms, including Jang Keun Suk, Pani Bottle, Great Library, RISABAE, Jang Ji Sou, Oking, and Juice Seyeon, compete to determine who has the strongest social influence.
The show has achieved remarkable success, ranking first in Netflix’s Top 10 Series in Korea and fourth in the global Top 10 TV Shows in the non-English category.
