Yoo Ah In, who is already facing trial for drug use, has now been accused of sexual assault, shocking the public. This new accusation adds another layer of uncertainty to the future release of his upcoming projects, Hi.5 and The Match, which were already in limbo due to the ongoing legal proceedings.
The Seoul Yongsan Police Station announced on the 15th that a man in his 30s, referred to as A, filed a report claiming Yoo Ah In sexually assaulted him. Under current laws, sexual assault between same-sex individuals is categorized as quasi-rape. A alleged in the report that he became aware of the assault after waking up on the 14th in a studio apartment in Yongsan District, Seoul. It is reported that neither Yoo Ah In nor the complainant resides at the place. The police plan to summon Yoo Ah In and the apartment owner for questioning soon.
Yoo Ah In’s legal team has strongly denied the allegations, stating that “the accusations are not true.” They also urged the public to refrain from speculating about his private life.
The new charges have placed additional strain on the films Hi.5 and The Match, in which Yoo Ah In plays leading roles. Both films had already delayed their releases pending the outcome of the drug-related trial. While those involved with the films have refrained from commenting publicly, industry insiders speculate that the controversy, regardless of the eventual verdict, would significantly impact the projects.
