Actor-singer Jinyoung and TWICE’s Dahyun are set to showcase their first love chemistry in the upcoming remake of the beloved Taiwanese film You Are the Apple of My Eye. The production company announced on the 10th that the film, adapted and directed by Cho Young Myoung, has officially begun filming. Two stills featuring the pair were also released, generating buzz among fans.
This remake follows the original 2011 Taiwanese film that was a box office hit across Asia, grossing over 100 million TWD (approximately 3.2 million USD) in record time for a Taiwanese movie. The romance film tells the story of a youthful first love revolving around Jin Woo (Jinyoung), a carefree teenager who spends countless days building up the courage to confess his feelings to his first love, Sun Ah (Dahyun).
Jinyoung steps into the role of Jin Woo, portraying him through his playful teenage years and into his twenties. His performance is expected to capture a wide range of emotions, from the playful innocence of youth to the heartache of first love. Dahyun brings Sun Ah to life, portraying a character who is both shy and strong-willed with delicate nuance.
An insider commented, “Dahyun is expected to carry on the title of ‘the nation’s first love.'” Jinyoung shared his excitement, saying, “I am thrilled to be cast in a project I hold dear and will strive to bring the film’s emotions to life.” Dahyun added, “It is an honor to greet everyone through the big screen, and I will do my best to deliver the best chemistry.”
The film kicked off production earlier this month and has already secured pre-sales in eight countries, including Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Both stars are currently focused on the intensive shooting schedule.
