The upcoming film Wonderland has been generating buzz with its impressive lineup of top-tier actors, and the excitement has only escalated with the news of Gong Yoo‘s special appearance. Directed by Kim Tae Yong, the film boasts a dream ensemble including Tang Wei, Suzy, Park Bo Gum, Jung Yu Mi, Choi Woo Sik, and more.

Wonderland provides a narrative where the deceased can be revived through an AI-powered video call service. This intriguing premise has drawn significant attention, positioning the film as a potential blockbuster.

At the heart of the excitement is Gong Yoo, whose filmography includes the groundbreaking Train to Busan and the global phenomena Guardian: The Lonely and Great God and Squid Game. His latest role in Wonderland as AI Sung Jun, who interacts with planners while observing the emotional evolution of another archaeologist AI Bai Li (Tang Wei), marks his first on-screen pairing with the actress.

Director Kim Tae Yong shared his inspiration behind Gong Yoo’s character. “In ‘Wonderland’, he plays an AI who manages the other AIs while sometimes becoming their friend. So the role needed a blend of cool and warm qualities, and there was no one better than Gong Yoo—warm, caring, and capable of carrying a romantic tension,” he revealed.

Tang Wei expressed her enjoyment working with Gong Yoo. “Thanks to Gong Yoo’s proficiency in English, we faced no language barriers. It was a delightful shoot, and I felt a kind of ‘brotherhood’ with him,” she noted, anticipating the special chemistry the two actors would bring to the screen.

Wonderland will hit the theaters on June 5th.
