In an exciting fusion of talents, Han Hyo Joo is set to star alongside Japan’s top actor Shun Oguri in the upcoming Netflix series Romantics Anonymous. The series, which began shooting in Japan earlier this month, marks a noteworthy collaboration between Korean and Japanese entertainment industries, promising to captivate audiences across both countries.

Romantics Anonymous draws inspiration from the French film Les Emotifs anonymes by Jean-Pierre Améris. It spins a romantic comedy around an exceptionally shy but talented chocolatier who finds work in a small chocolate shop, setting the stage for a series of heartwarming events. The director’s chair is occupied by Shô Tsukikawa, known for directing the beloved Japanese film Let Me Eat Your Pancreas, which received widespread acclaim in Korea.

In the series, Han Hyo Joo portrays a character with a fear of social interactions yet possesses a remarkable talent for chocolate making. Shun Oguri plays the chocolate shop’s owner, who gets overly nervous over minor matters. The story unfolds as they discover their shared traits and gradually close the distance between them. The collaboration between the two stars is anticipated to generate significant buzz in both Korea and Japan.

Furthermore, the series is produced by Yong Film, a veteran production company in Korea known for hits like The Handmaiden and Believer. This project is particularly noteworthy as it sees a Korean production company creating content for Netflix Japan. The fact that a Korean production company is producing a Japanese series with a local director, cast, and staff highlights the expanding influence of Korean content production beyond its borders and into international markets.

Given the recent hit Eye Love You, starring Chae Jong Hyeop and Fumi Nikaido in Japan, the anticipation for Romantics Anonymous is through the roof. With Han Hyo Joo and Shun Oguri leading the charge, the excitement is palpable.
