North American distributor Echelon Studios has acquired 12.12: The Day, the highest-grossing South Korean film of 2023.
The film already had a theatrical release in North America through 815 Pictures and earned over $1 million.
Echelon said that the film will have a streaming release later this year. It will also be available to pre-order on digital platforms like iTunes, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube Movies, Vudu, Vimeo OnDemand and OnDemand Korea.
Directed by Kim Sung Su, the film grossed over $90 million in South Korea. It is based on true events from December 1979 that led to an eight-year military dictatorship in South Korea.
The film stars Hwang Jung Min, Jung Woo Sung, Lee Sung Min, Park Hae Joon, Kang Gil Woo and Jung Hae In.
