In an era where cryptocurrency scams are becoming all too common, even celebrities find themselves caught in the crossfire of allegations. The latest to clear the air is none other than Super Junior’s Choi Siwon, who took to his YouTube channel to address rumors linking him to a controversial coin scandal.

On February 12th, Choi made a public statement denying any involvement with the so-called Youth Pay scandal. “I wish to express explicitly that I have no involvement with regard to the controversy surrounding the Korea Youth Committee’s Youth Pay. Furthermore, I have never been appointed as an ambassador for the Korea Youth Committee’s Youth Pay,” Choi declared.

His involvement, he explained, was limited to receiving “an award at a ceremony organized by the Korea Youth Committee, this was in recognition of setting a good example for the youth, as intended by the committee,” and is in no way related to the ongoing scandal.

The backdrop of this denial is a recent uproar involving Winnerz, a blockchain-based sports platform caught in a scam coin controversy. The scam, typically featuring celebrities to promote a new cryptocurrency before disappearing with investors’ money, has ensnared not just famous streamers like Na Seon Uk, Kim Won Hun, Cho Jin Se, and Oking, but also former footballer Lee Chun Soo.

The Youth Pay Coin, mentioned by Choi Siwon, found itself in similar hot water. After being listed on the MEXC exchange alongside Winnerz, it was revealed to lack any real substance, leading to its delisting.
