MBC has dropped an intriguing trailer for its upcoming Friday-Saturday drama, Chief Detective 1958.
Chief Detective 1958 is prequel to Chief Inspector one of South Korea’s most iconic detective dramas. The story unfolds in 1958 when detective Park Young Han (played by Lee Je Hoon) gets assigned to the Seoul office. There, he and his colleagues work together to bring justice to a corrupt world, and he grows into a genuine detective who works for the benefit of the people while working to restore justice.
The series is directed by Kim Sung Hoon, known for Confidential Assignment and Rampant, and written by Kim Young Shin. Park Jae Beom, renowned for The Fiery Priest and Vincenzo, has also contributed as a creator.
The trailer begins with the confident self-introduction of Detective Park Young Han, who has just arrived to Seoul from a small village named Hwang Chun. However, the investigation in Seoul gets challenging. Park Young Han and his colleagues experience frustration, anger, and even shed tears together. Still, Park Young Han’s firmly states, “Now, we only have two things to remember: We should protect the weak and beat up the bad guys,” heightening anticipation for his next move.
Lee Je Hoon takes on the role of the young legendary detective Park Young Han, battling against a harsh reality that tramples on human dignity. Lee Dong Hwi plays Kim Sang Soon, an officer at Jongnam Police Station, where one wrong move ead to dire consequences. He meets a turning point in his life after crossing paths with Young Han. in the corrupt milieu.
Rising star Choi Woo Sung transforms into Jo Kyung Hwan, a young rice store worker with exceptional strength who later plays an active role in Jongnam Police Station. Yoon Hyun Soo portrays Seo Ho Jeong, an elite man who dreams of becoming a master investigator at the Jongnam Police Department.
Chief Detective 1958 will premiere in 2024.
