Jeon Jong Seo‘s relentless tale of revenge confirmed its release on October 6th.
Netflix announced on the 7th, “The release date for the movie Ballerina (directed by Lee Chung Hyeon) has been confirmed. It will meet global audiences on the 6th of next month.” The platform also dropped a teaser and a poster on the same day.
Ballerina is a visceral action-revenge movie. The film follows Ok Joo (Jeon Jong Seo), as she hunts down Choi (Kim Ji Hoon). Choi is the malevolent force responsible for the death of Min Hee (Park Yu Rim), Ok Joo’s friend and ballerina.
The released poster hints at Ok Joo’s bloody vendetta. She is seen sitting on a motorcycle with ballet shoes on it, exuding a chilling demeanor. The eye-catching tagline, “The only one I wanted to protect,” is prominently displayed.
The accompanying teaser kicks off with a stunning ballet performance, sharply juxtaposed against Ok Joo’s gritty appearance. As the trailer unfolds, Ok Joo tracks down Choi, the man behind Min Hee’s death. Using guns, knives, and her very existence as weapons, she engages in a blood-splattering showdown with him. The trailer wraps up with Ok Joo, her eyes ablaze as she aims her gun, snarling, “I’ll follow you to hell.” It leaves audiences questioning whether Ok Joo can exact her revenge and escape the depths of hell.
Famed as an all-round musician, Gray acted as a music director and contributed to the movie’s edgy and stylistic soundtrack, promising an action movie unlike any seen before. Directed by Lee Chung Hyeon of The Call (also Jeon Jong Seo’s boyfriend), Ballerina is a production from Climax Studios, known for Netflix series such as Hellbound, D.P., and the film Jung_E.
Meanwhile, Ballerina has been officially invited to the 28th Busan International Film Festival. It will have its premiere in the Today’s Korean Cinema: Special Premiere section.
