Ji Chang Wook and Ryu Seung Ryong are reportedly diving into the drama adaptation of Barbarian (literal title).

On the 28th, an insider revealed to JTBC Entertainment News, “Ji Chang Wook and Ryu Seung Ryong will be appearing in Barbarian, a drama adaptation of a webtoon by Yoon Tae Ho.” Both actors’ agencies, however, responded, “Barbarian is one of the many works we received an offer from.”

Barbarian is a webtoon serialized on Kakao Webtoon from 2014 to 2015. It depicts the perilous journey of those consumed by unscrupulous greed, who gather to find underwater artifacts off the coast of Sinan, each armed with their own ambitions and logic.

In the drama, Ji Chang Wook and Ryu Seung Ryong will respectively portray the roles of Hui Dong and Gwan Seok, nephew and uncle. Set in the 1970s, they embark on a treasure hunt after receiving a proposal to retrieve a vessel from the West Sea, hoping to break free from their lives of deceit. As the number of treasure seekers increases, obsessions start to tip into madness, forcing characters to choose between desire and humanity. The bromance between the two, bolstered by their solid acting abilities, sparks high anticipation.

Meanwhile, Barbarian is slated to be a 10-part series produced by Whyworks Entertainment. Kang Yun Sung, the director of the film The Outlaw and Disney Plus series Big Bet, is at the helm. Shooting will commence in the second half of this year, aiming for a release by the end of next year via OTT platforms.
