Kim Bum is a massive fan of Tale of the Nine Tailed himself. In the recent interview with the Cosmopolitan Korea pictorial, the actor dished on his show that recently returned with season 2,Tale of the Nine Tailed 1983.

“Yes, even though I usually struggle to watch the projects I was in, I keep Tale of the Nine Tailed running all day like white noise at home,” he shares. “If I hear a favorite OST or a familiar voice, I stop whatever I’m doing and tune in. I think I’ve binged it over five times already.” He chuckles, indicating his genuine fondness for the show.

Kim’s meticulous approach to his craft doesn’t stop at the acting. He plays an active role in defining the look of his character as well, from the costume to the hair and makeup. “I personally visited the tailor shop responsible for the costumes in the show and examined over a thousand fabric samples to find the perfect combination of material and color,” he says.

The actor continued, “If the image I envisioned in my head doesn’t translate well in reality, I get quite disheartening on set. So I go through this process for every role before stepping on set.”

His meticulousness even extends to the character’s handwriting. He discloses, “The first thing I do when I receive a script is write the character’s name in the handwriting I think they would have. That’s how it starts. Yi Rang has lived since the Joseon era, so I have one written with a brush.”

When asked what acting means to him, Kim Bum looked back on his 17 years in the profession. “Acting is like a rollercoaster of emotions to me. There have been times of immense joy, but also moments of sorrow and pain,” he replies. “When I was younger, I found it challenging to perform regardless of my personal feelings, for instance, when I had to portray a cheerful character during difficult personal times. During a phase when acting, which I had always loved, started feeling more like a chore, and I was losing interest, Tale of the Nine Tailed came along as a rescuing grace. That’s why it holds such a special place in my heart.”
