The first part of tvN’s Alchemy of Souls ended with a surprising twist.

Episode 20 begins with Jang Wook (played by Lee Jae Wook) and Mudeok (Jung So Min) preparing to leave Sari village to set out for their bright future. However, Jin Mu (Jo Jae Yoon) discovers that Mudeok and Naksu’s souls are switched and decides to hypnotize her to achieve his goal.

The tragedy breaks out on the wedding day of Park Dang Gu (Yoo In Su) and Jin Cho Yeon (Arin). Jin Mu commands Mudeok to kill Jin Woo Tak (Joo Seok Tae) first and enters Songrim, pretending that he is after Naksu. The rumors spread that an assassin is in Songrim, so people go to the woods to fight her. There, Jang Uk interferes and blocks an arrow from killing her, but she stabs him as she is still being hypnotized. Determined to save her, Jang Wook pushes the sword deep into his chest and falls to the ground.

Mudeok comes to her senses with the voice of Jang Wook calling her, but she soon breaks down after realizing that she has killed her lover. However, Jin Mu hypnotizes her again, using the bell that can control all soul shifters. She dives into the great lake of Gyeongcheondae and disappears. Meanwhile, Jin Mu frames Naksu for all crimes committed by soul shifters, and Jang Wook’s body gets cremated in a rush without a funeral for hiding the true identity of Naksu.

To everyone’s surprise, Jang Wook rises from the ashes and comes out of the fire alive.

Meanwhile, the preview for the second part of the drama hinted that Go Yoon Jung would replace Jung So Min in the following episodes.
