Netflix’s Kingdom: Ashin of the North released new still photos of the North, the place that holds the secret behind the origin of the herb known as the “resurrection plant.”

Kingdom: Ashin of the North is a special episode of the Kingdom series. It unravels the secret behind the resurrection plant and the story of Ashin. If seasons 1 and 2 of Kingdom capture the calm and elegant beauty of Joseon, this new episode heads to the North to find the truth behind the plague.

The released photos showcase the vast and quiet atmosphere of the North. Since the resurrection plant likes to grow in cold weather, writer Kim Eun Hee inevitably chose the North as the new background.

For Kingdom: Ashin of the North, the production team had to seek a location where the exotic culture of the North and the familiar lifestyle of Joseon are in harmony. Director Kim Sung Hoon shared, “We captured the beauty of another world that wasn’t shown in Kingdom.”

The vast land, deep and dark forests, and the snow-covered hill catch the eyes. The eerie yet lonely northern scenery expresses Ashin’s emotions. The sight of Ashin standing alone in the darkness gives a glimpse into her sadness of losing all her family and friends.

Director Kim added, “The vastness of the north and the colors from the huge forest will give off another charm.”

Kingdom: Ashin of the North will be released on Netflix on the 23rd.
