Blackpink became the first female artist in the world to amass 60 million subscribers on Youtube.
On the 13th, YG Entertainment announced the number of subscribers for the group’s YouTube channel passed the milestone at around 6 AM KST. They achieved the best record among all Korean channels in just five years.
This Korean act has already surpassed pop star Ariana Grande in July last year and became a female artist with the largest number of YouTube subscribers. Then in the next three months, they overtook Eminem, Ed Sheeran, and DJ Marshmallow, leaving only Justin Bieber (62 million subscribers) in front.
Today, the gap between Justin Bieber and Blackpink has narrowed significantly from 9 million to 2 million. Compared to Justin Bieber, who debuted in 2009 and garnered 60 million subscribers in about 11 years, Blackpink’s YouTube channel’s growth is certainly imposing.
Every time Blackpink releases a new song, the number of their YouTube subscribers spikes up as well. From music videos to performance clips, Blackpink content posted on YouTube reached 17 billion views in total.
YG Entertainment explained how the YouTube record could be read in the global music industry, saying, “The number of subscribers is a token of the steady interest and expectation of loyal fans, not just one-time viewers.”
