TREASURE took its first step as an artist.
TREASURE (Hyunsuk, Jihoon, Yoshinori, Junkyu, Mashiho, Jaehyuk, Asahi, Yedam, Haruto, Doyoung, Jeongwoo, and Junghwan) held a press conference at Yeongdeungpo CGV Times Square in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of August 7.
Formed through 2018 survival show YG Treasure Box, TREASURE is the first boy band to be introduced by YG in five years. Originally, 13 people were selected, but the group reorganized into a 12-member group last year when Ha Yoonbin left after his exclusive contract expired.
It was not an easy journey to official debut. TREASURE’s debut has been postponed due to continuous controversies involving YG artists and former CEO Yang Hyun Suk. However, they accepted this waiting as a process of growth. Doyoung said, “With the longer preparation period, we became more greedy than being anxious. We were able to grow and learn more during that time.”
Bang Yedam, entered YG as a trainee in 2012 at the age of 11 after winning second place in K-pop Star: Season 2. Finally announcing his debut (as a member of a group), he said, “I am honored about all the expectations and attention. Rather than being nervous or tired about the long trainee days, I’d like to think that it allowed me to grow up in many ways.”
“THE FIRST STEP” series brings together 12 shiny dots to symbolize the first step taken by TREASURE. CHAPTER ONE tells the story of a boy who fell in love for the first time. In particular, the debut title track “BOY” will impress the music fans with its powerful track and dance breaks that highlights their performance.
TREASURE shines even more as the members’ different personalities blend together. Jihoon said, “Since each of us has excellent individuality, we can create greater synergy. We want to establish ourselves as a group that raises expectations.”
As YG artists have been active overseas, interest in TREASURE is also high. Especially, there is a high expectation that they will be able to differentiate themselves from their senior groups. Hyunsuk said, “We will be able to show you TREASURE’s unique charm in the part where we dance and sing together at the end of the title song ‘BOY.’”
He added, “TREASURE is everywhere. It means to find a treasure in small things. We want to give everyone bright energy and leave a mark in history.”
TREASURE’s first single album THE FIRST STEP: CHAPTER ONE, which includes the title track “BOY” and non-title track “COME TO ME,” will be released at 6:00 p.m. on August 7 KST.
