Edward Lee expressed his thoughts and gratitude on his social media on October 11th, saying, “I am so thankful for all the outpouring of love that I’ve received over the past few weeks from those who are watching @netflixkr Culinary Class Wars. I am moved by all of your comments and messages.”

Reflecting on his experience, he said, “For a kid like me who spent much of my youth avoiding Korean culture, I cannot explain in words what it means to be able to connect to my heritage, to represent my vision of Korean food, and to feel the support from you all.”

He went on to say, “I want to thank every chef I competed with. It was an insane experience, and I’m lucky to call each one of you a friend. To the entire production crew—the directors, producers, editors, and the amazing culinary team—you were incredible to work with. I’ll miss you all.”

He also added, “It has been a dream to cook in my homeland with the ingredients of my youth and to show the world how beautiful and diverse Korean food can be.”

In response to concerns from some viewers that he was at a disadvantage without a proper kitchen to practice in while in Korea, Edward explained, “Every day off while in Korea, I turned my hotel room into a test kitchen, bought ingredients from the local markets, and tested new ideas all while watching intense Korean dramas for motivation. A kitchen is passion and love and creativity—it is not only fancy equipment or luxury ingredients. All I ever really need is a cutting board, a knife, and curiosity to turn any room into a kitchen.”

Edward Lee finished as the runner-up on Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars, which has now released all its episodes.
