tvN has released an interview with director Choi Young Hoon of its new Saturday-Sunday drama, Pandora: Beneath the Paradise.
Pandora: Beneath the Paradise is a revenge story about a woman who searches for the truth about her past after losing her memory and realizing that her perfect life was orchestrated as part of someone’s grand plan. The show is a collaboration between The Penthouse writer Kim Soon Ok and One the Woman and Good Casting director Choi Young Hoon.
Director Choi explained that the show has an exciting and fast-paced plot with plenty of twists and turns in every episode. “The story goes beyond genres like mystery, action and romance, and it unfolds with revenge narratives and spectacular visuals,” he teased. “While nobody dies in the first episode, someone will meet their demise later on the show.”
The director also highlighted his focus on directing, saying, “My focus for this project was to maintain the tension of the suspense thriller. I tried my best to bring out the depth of the characters’ desires and emotions by using bold camera angles and colors while also capturing the mood and tone of the story. Additionally, I made sure to keep the story’s pace consistent throughout without sacrificing the character development.”
Pandora: Beneath the Paradise weaves an intriguing tale of double-faced characters who are constantly doubting, in conflict with each other, and ultimately reconciling. The director emphasized the importance of actor chemistry, stating, “Given the theme of betrayal and revenge, the interactions between actors were the most important. The actors fortunately came prepared with several interpretations of their characters, adding depth and complexity to their performances.”
The upcoming drama stars Lee Ji Ah, Lee Sang Yoon, Jang Hee Jin, Park Ki Woong and Bong Tae Gyu. The director praised Lee Ji Ah for her outstanding performance, saying, “Lee Ji Ah has an amazing skill of conveying her emotions through her eyes. I loved how she told all her stories with her eyes without saying a word. To top it off, her eyes contain both fragility and strong will,” he remarked.
He added, “Lee Sang Yoon will make the biggest acting transformation through this drama. He will no longer be a gentle and sweet man. I look forward to seeing him transform into a relentlessly ambitious man with demonic energy.”
Meanwhile, Pandora: Beneath the Paradise will premiere on March 11th.
