On January 11, Mnet announced the launch of a new global project, Girls Planet 999. The company added, “It’s a program made by Korean, Chinese and Japanese participants who have the same dream of debuting as an idol, although the language and culture are different. Their journey and growth to their dream will unfold in the virtual world of Girls Planet that transcends the country and region.”

The group selected through Girls Planet 999 will debut as a Korea-China-Japan group with a goal for a global market. The production team will recruit participants who are “Korean, Chinese, and Japanese women born before January 1, 2006” until February 21. UNIVERSE, the new K-pop platform developed by game company NCSOFT, will partner with the show to provide the global voting system for the final debut lineup and various digital content and services for fans.

On a side note, Mnet will also introduce a new idol survival program with BELIFT LAB. Back in September last year, Mnet heralded the second idol group by BELIFT LAB in the final episode of I-LAND, saying, “Global tour auditions will soon begin to find girls who will debut as the next generation girl group.”
