As global superstars BTS prepare for their highly anticipated full-group return, rumors are swirling that their comeback performance could take place at one of Seoul’s most iconic landmarks: Gwanghwamun Square.

Big Hit Music responded to reports on January 19th, telling Xports News that plans for the first performance are “currently under discussion.” They added, “Official announcements will be made once final decisions regarding the venue and schedule are confirmed.”

The statement follows a report by Yonhap News TV claiming that BTS is actively pursuing a comeback show at Gwanghwamun Square to mark their return on March 20th.

A Historic Stage?

HYBE has applied for permits under the event title “K-Heritage and K-Pop Fusion Performance,” according to the report. The proposed locations reportedly include Gyeongbokgung Palace, Gwanghwamun Square and Sungnyemun Gate.

The concert is being planned as a free event for fans. Potential dates include the album release day, March 20th, or the following weekend of March 21st to 22nd. Reports suggest that between 15,000 and 20,000 attendees will be selected through a pre-application process to witness the historic moment.

The Return of the Kings

BTS will officially make their full-group comeback on March 20th, 2026, with their 5th full-length album, titled ARIRANG. This marks their first release as a complete unit in three years and nine months. Following the album drop, the group will kick off a massive world tour starting in Goyang on April 9th.
