Singles Korea magazine has unveiled its January cover featuring Ji Chang Wook in a striking noir-inspired fashion spread.
Fresh off his back-to-back noir hits The Worst of Evil and Gangnam B-Side, the actor opened up about his approach to intense roles. “While action scenes are physically demanding, they bring their own satisfaction and sense of achievement. But it’s not that action or emotionally demanding works are particularly more or less difficult. For me, everything is challenging and painful,” he candidly shared.
“It’s not like I’m thinking ‘this is killing me’ or ‘I don’t want to do this,’ but rather, inflicting pain on myself and working through intense discomfort seems to be my style as an actor,” he explained. “If there ever comes a day when I’m working on a project without worry or difficulty, I’d actually be concerned.”
Addressing his recent prolific streak, Ji revealed: “There’s no special reason. I didn’t want to miss out on roles or projects I wanted to do, so since about two years ago, I’ve been working non-stop. These days, I’m finding enjoyment in challenging myself with things I haven’t done much before, besides just working. I think it’s part of broadening my spectrum as an actor.”
Currently busy filming Disney Plus original series The Manipulated, Ji shared: “It’s a series adaptation of the film Fabricated City, and I’m working with Yang Dong Geun, Lee Kwang Soo, Do Kyung Soo, and Jo Yoon Su.” He added, “Writer Oh Sang Ho of ‘Taxi Driver’ is involved in both ‘Fabricated City’ and ‘The Manipulated.’ While only the basic setup is similar to the movie, the characters will develop differently, making it interesting to compare.”
When asked about future roles, the actor expressed, “Surprisingly, there are still many roles I haven’t tried. I’ve never played a doctor, and my mind changes all the time, but I’d like to do a project focused entirely on racing or car chasing from start to finish.”
Responding to questions about his sensual appeal that has fans swooning, Ji reflected: “I think sexiness evolves into sensuality as one matures and becomes more experienced. It’s probably created by overlapping charms that come from one’s attitude toward life, thoughts, and experiences.” However, he playfully dismissed the notion of his own sensuality, adding: “I’m quite harsh in self-evaluation, so I’ve never thought about it. Instead, I sometimes think, ‘I’m kind of cute, aren’t I?'”
