Moon Sang Min is opening up about filming two very different kiss scenes in the Netflix film Pavan and what each one meant to him.
The actor spoke on February 25th during an interview for the film, directed by Lee Jong Pil. Pavan follows three people who have closed themselves off emotionally as they gradually become each other’s light, rediscovering life and love along the way.
In the film, Moon, playing Kyung Rok, shares one kiss scene with Byun Yo Han, who plays Yohan, and another with Go Ah Sung, who plays Mi Jung.
Looking back on the scene with Byun Yo Han, Moon said it wasn’t something he intended. “The kiss with Yohan wasn’t really my idea,” he explained. “I was very grateful to him. He came up with the idea and really led the whole scene. I don’t know who else could have done that if it wasn’t him.”
His scene with Go Ah Sung felt completely different. “The kiss with Mi Jung was good because it was clumsy,” Moon said. “It felt different from the kisses I’ve done in dramas before. It had this awkward, rushed feeling, like his heart got there before he did. Kyung Rok had been waiting so long to meet her and finally be close to her.” He added, “I didn’t know it was clumsy when shooting it. It just came out naturally from the emotions.”
In the film, Kyung Rok describes love as something that lights up another person’s soul. When asked if he had ever experienced that himself, Moon said he had. “There was a time when I thought I was shining on my own, but I realized that wasn’t it,” he said. “I think you only really shine when you love each other. That’s why that line resonated with me. Love really is about becoming each other’s light.”
Pavan was recently released on Netflix.
